Fit to Fly
Fit to Fly is, essentially,
a cognitive fitness self-appraisal and exercise guide.
People who are cognitively fit are lower accident risks.
Two excellent reviews were published in Australian Flying
and Australian Aviation. You will find those reviews
in your User Guide.
An unfavourable (and unsolicited) review appeared in the magazine
of the Australian Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA).
Without being overtly critical, the reviewer said words to the
effect that he couldn’t work out what the author was trying
to say. In short, as an exercise in searching self-review
it will make some people uncomfortable. Being able too deal
with aversion to introspection is a vital safety defence. |

Checklist
Carried in a pocket at all duty times.
There is just one Action page – to be used at the
point of decision. You apply its Risk Management
(RM) process.
Other pages list brief tips that daily remind of Red
Flag’s underlying principles.
The User Guide directs use. Basically:
• You take The Checklist out when you anticipate
the need for a critical decision.
• Declare, “This is a
Red Flag situation.”
• Follow the Risk Management process (back page).
|
The Checklist is printed
on tough plastic for durability.
It comprises 5 double-sided pages,
one of which is the "Action page".
The Risk Management tool is on
the last page. (See User
Guide)

Over time, just
touching the Checklist – and putting it in your pocket each
day – will stimulate safety vigilance.
