Honour Badge
Any endeavour on any person’s part, to render him or herself
less likely to cause harm or pain – whether physical, emotional,
financial– if sincerely and diligently and continuously undertaken,
deserves favourable recognition as well as respect. There should
be a badge you can wear.

Imagine this:
There’s an emblem that says, "This person’s
Personal Error Prevention (PEP) skills are in a fit state."
When you book your airline flight, online, there is a notice
to the effect that, "All flight and handling crews are
PEP Fit, as are the maintenance staff who look after the plane."
It’s their way of saying, "Trust us, you’re in good hands."
Or it may be your dentist, doctor or surgeon
(lawyer, accountant, etc); there’s a plaque in their waiting
room saying, in effect, "I’m unlikely to do harm to you
or your business."
Be nice wouldn’t it?

You can see how that would work from an airline passenger’s perspective,
can’t you. But it could be the person seeking a doctor. How to choose?
There’s an emblem alongside their name on the Internet register
of medical practitioners in your area?  The
rogue surgeon had the entire confidence of the patients he harmed
(or worse). That was beforehand, of course. If only they could have
known.
Red Flag System©
offers professionals the opportunity to make – and validate –
a claim that they are less likely to err, that the lives that
are entrusted to them, directly or indirectly, will be protected to
the greatest extent possible. As you’d expect, the basis for such
a claim must be irreproachable.
That’s why the Red Flag System©
is uncompromising. It involves continuous application: daily,
weekly and monthly events are prescribed, and their completion
assessed and recorded. The essential skills that comprise individual
error-prevention competence are identified, as are measures (a)
to assess their fitness state, and (b) to exercise to get
them fitter and keep them that way. It’s a difficult
and unrelenting whole-of-life challenge that bestows honour on the
participant, recognition for decent motivation and continuous striving
to be better.
There is a cost to production and dissemination – and therefore
purchase – of the program. Over time, the advantage returned should
transcend the investment.
The Red Flag System©
program will continuously evolve. It must. The "bugs"
it seeks to defeat are like the flu virus. When it returns to our
shores each year, last year’s vaccine is not effective against it.
This version of the program is designed for aviation professionals.
The fact that its essential elements are universally applicable
– eg, sport as well as work – will be apparent. So, too, will its
state of maturity. In particular, The Team that will manage such
a comprehensive scheme is still being assembled.
